Martin Cwiakala Presents…
‘Coffee’s Nice by the Dashboard Lights’
A Tribute to Meat Loaf
And his song, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights
In this time of the Corona Virus, we here at The Coffee Roost are open for curbside service only. You will find us in friendly Laurens, on the Square (inside the Artist Coop).
We are taking phone calls, but encouraging people to use our ordering system, The-Coffee-Roost.square.site We set up this page so you can order online -- safe and sound from home or in your car. Doing this minimizes the chance of handling currency. We will still take cash, and we are working with you in every way. But we are always on the lookout for practices to keep us all safer.
However, one thing is for sure is that you have to stay outside and we will come to you. By not allowing anyone in the shop, we have been able to keep our practices streamlined, and we can sanitize the surfaces and spray. We do this to keep ourselves and the public as safe as we can.
We hand-deliver your beverage - all the while observing social distancing, wearing gloves and maintaining space between us. Oh and lots of smiling and a lot of love.
While these guidelines are necessary to flatten the curve of the virus spread, as you can imagine, it makes us nostalgic -- and we need humor to keep going. To that end, I wrote some verses that popped in my head. All to the tune of an old favorite song of mine. A song about love.
That song is Meatloaf’s old-timey classic rock hit, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights, written and made famous in 1977. If you haven’t heard it before, it’s a hoot. It is really about negotiation and passion.
I wanted to write something playing with the lyric about our new ordering process where you can go online and get your order started. We work inside and then Peg comes out with the drinks.
Here is my work for your enjoyment.
Coffee’s Nice by the Dashboard Light
A Poem
Stop right there!
You gotta phone right now!
Before you go any further you must phone me
with your coffee order
If you go on-line, it is even shorter
Cappuccinos...
Lattes...
Coffee on ice...
Would a Frappuccino make you feel really nice?
I gotta know right now
Before we go any further
You must phone me with your coffee order...
We will make it for you
Baby baby
We will make it for you
We will make it for you
The coffee that you ordered
While you’re wait’n, you’re anticipating
While you’re wait’n...
While you’re wait’n, you’re anticipating what you ordered
You need your coffee now!
Was it a latte, or a cappuccino?
A frappe, or a Peg’s cubano?
Magnum or a Beast, that would be very nice
You need your coffee, you’re trying to be nice
You need your coffee now!
You can’t go any further,
You are waiting for your coffee order...
Peggy’s there right now, with your coffee order!
Peggy’s there right now
Peggy’s there right now
With a smile and the coffee that you ordered!
You can pay by cash, for your coffee order
Or a credit card
If you went online, then this transaction would be over…
Then you take a sip, of your coffee order
Then you take a sip
When you take a sip, you get a feeling of nirvana...
And as you drive away
with your caffeinated delight
Coffee’s so nice by the dashboard light
